January NewsFlash 2009

Dear Parents & Students,

Happy New Year! We hope that each of you had a joyful holiday with your family. We are really excited to be back to finish Semester I.

1.We are doing a final call for the photo CD taken of both performances and the DVD shot of each performances this week through January 8, 2009. Please see Miss Lisa in the office if you would like to order either/both.

2. We are moving the Semester I Trophy ceremony to Tuesday Jan. 13 from 6-7:00pm for ages 2-8 and to Tuesday Jan. 20 from 6-7:00pm for ages 9 and up so as not to interfer with classes (we think we have outgrown the lobby area for this ceremony.) The ceremony will take place in The Diamond Studio on both Tuesdays and family & friends are welcome to attend. Your cameras are also welcome. Each RAFA student gets 1 trophy for Semester I.

3. THE WIZARD OF OZ IS BEING CHANGED: We are also making some adjustments on the Feb. 29/ March 1, 2009 production in response to our economy and to make The Academy's March production cost and time efficient. Instead of doing the full scale The Wizard of Oz with practices on Saturdays, The Royal Academy is presenting each class in this performance. This will save on Saturday rehearsals (money, gas and time) and will reduce the costume rental needed for each child. YOU DO NOT NEED TO SIGN UP FOR THIS SHOW-THERE ARE NO REGISTRATION FEES AS WE ARE LEARNING THIS IN CLASS.

The 4 Presentations titled "The Royal Showcase" we are planning are: 1. a half hour version of The Wizard of Oz including Munchkin Land and the meeting of all main characters with Miss Jessica. 2. a mini version of Little Orphan Annie with Miss Lisa. 3. Fractured Fairytales with Miss Nina. 4. excerpts from Giselle and Romeo and Juliet Balconey Scene with Mr. Mike. There will be many FAB roles that will be awarded giving GREAT performance opportunities for each of you.

"The Royal Showcase" will be taught in class with no auditions-leads will be voted on/awarded by faculty-and there are no Saturday rehearsals like we had for The Nutcracker. We hope this addresses the needs of our Royal Academy families and at the same time, offers up a high end performance experience at The James B. White Performing Arts Center on March 1 with our entire Academy involved (practicing without performance is like practicing baseball without participating in games.)

4. WE ARE REINSTATING THE $50 THANK YOU REFERRAL CREDIT FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY THROUGH FEB. 13, 2009. Refer a new family to RAFA for class and receive a $50 THANK YOU REFERRAL CREDIT on your account for EVERY new family your refer.
